Evard's Black Tentacles, a Spell.

Dear Journal,

This was a question that bothered me for a long time.

Spell Mantle Spells are useful in Spell-Duels, for they Protect against most of the Magick. Greater Spell Breach is also useful, for it strips a lot of Protections and lowers one's Spell Resistance.

But there's a spell that 'works around' Spell Mantle's Protections, an 'Evard's Black Tentacles Spell'. It causes tentacles to grow around and attack, thus evading the Protections on the Arcanist. (It's cast on ground, not on the Arcanist).

This Evard's spell bypasses one's Spell Resistance, as well.

Someone put this spell for analysis and split it's effects into two parts:

1. Damaging effect, coming from the physical strength of the tentacles,
2. Mind-Paralyzing effect, coming from poison on the tentacles' stings.

She came to following conclusions:

1. First effect could be mostly mitigated by spells that 'soak' the damage, by Spells such as Shadow Shield,
2. Second effect could be mitigated by mind-freeing spells as Lesser Mind Blank spell, or Freedom of Movement spell.

It seems that i have what i need to Protect myself or others from Evard's Black Tentacles spell. All i need is being aware of coming attack, having the Initiative.

i've fought against Kuo-Toa again.

went deeper than usually when alone, to the point when Ghost Visage failed in midst of combat.

enemies were engaged with Shelgarn's Persistent Blade, so i had enough of time & focus to recast succesfully.

Dear Journal,

Sorcerers in this land go through many initiations & acquire access to new Spell Circles as they progress with experience.

After first initiation they can cast few of 1st circle spells & cantrips, few times a day.

After next initiations - more & more.

Details of how many spells of certain type can be formed a day depends on innate talent & charisma, on metamagics, on magic items used & on initiation level of a caster.

There are cases when spells go awry or fail to be cast succesfully. This is caused by wild magic & null magic zones, equipment.

Spells can be dispelled or countered as well.

There's much more to tell but it's advanced lesson.

Meditation on Spells.

it occured to me as i walked through kobolds, paralyzing them with a 'Hold Person' spell, without killing.



Kobolds Held.


i didn't meditate on Enlightened Love yet.

i meditated only on Spells.

what's the point?

meditation puts someone into a Trance, i think.

Trance is mind's state of focus on a certain cause, where anything that hinders is neglected no matter the cost.

certainly, i should change.

Spell Crystals.

What is a Spell Crystal?

It's a tool - for storing spells the way they can be used by nonmages.

They are extracted from remains of monsters called 'Magic Eaters' that dwell in the Underdark, very dangerous ones.

i think it's a way and form of expression to give someone appropriate spell stored in such to protect her or him that way.

Alone i can't handle magic eaters - they are very efficient at killing mages that are not prepared for such combat (most are not, including me). But i can buy such crystals if i have gold and someone does this for me.

I should mention that at the current moment, not all spells can be stored in such crystals... perhaps with arcane research this can be pushed further. The stronger spell to be stored, the better quality crystal is needed, and they come from harder fights.

How to use Identify spell if you follow Enlightened Energies, and work with Forms of Energy and Light?

Imagine Enlightened Energy associated with Wisdom, such as Vairocana, then Identify with Him, Casting this Spell like that. Or with Saint associated with Wisdom.

Then you will Know where this leads.

You won't regret.
